Roger Ulman

Senior Pastor

I had the privilege of growing up in a strong Christian home.  My Father was a pastor and a missionary to East Africa.  At the age of 9 while in E. Africa I accepted what Jesus had done for me but it wasn’t until I was 19 years old that I allowed His Lordship to rule my life.  It was at the age of 23 while attending Horizon School of Evangelism in San Diego, CA that I heard God’s call into the ministry.  From there God took me, my wife and three children across the country several times for testing and training in several different ministry positions after which we finally landed in Kalamazoo Michigan in 2000 to plant what is now Calvary Chapel of Kalamazoo Valley.

Years ago, long before the church started God had impressed upon me the vision statement of “God gives second chances”.  As a church body we allow that statement to influence our thoughts, direction, and ministry.  We feel called to show God’s mercy to everyone God brings to us.

The fellowship here at Calvary Chapel has been a great blessing to my wife Lisa and I. One of the biggest blessings is that they are a group of people who love God’s word and have such a hunger to learn and apply it. I have so much fun teaching because every Sunday they are so excited to hear the word of God being taught verse by verse.
